Village of Caledonia
The Village of Caledonia set out to refine its visual identity in a way that honored its past while supporting continued growth and community pride. Through research, stakeholder collaboration, and a deep dive into local history and culture, this project focused on creating a brand that feels authentic to the village and flexible enough to serve residents, visitors, and future initiatives alike.
The resulting identity balances tradition with clarity, weaving together meaningful local references into a cohesive system that can be confidently applied across municipal communications, events, and everyday touchpoints. The goal was not to reinvent Caledonia, but to give it a visual language that feels considered, welcoming, and unmistakably its own.

the problem
A growing community without a unified visual identity
As the Village of Caledonia continued to grow and evolve, its existing visual presence no longer reflected the community’s character, history, or day-to-day reality. While there was a strong sense of pride and place among residents, the village lacked a cohesive brand system, resulting in inconsistent communications across signage, events, print materials, and digital touchpoints. Without a clear and unified identity, it became difficult to present Caledonia in a way that felt recognizable, welcoming, and credible to residents, visitors, and partners alike, while still remaining practical and appropriate for long-term municipal use.
the solution
A thoughtful, community-informed brand system built for long-term use
The solution was to develop a unified brand identity rooted in community input, local context, and practical municipal needs. Through a collaborative and research-driven process, a flexible visual system was created to bring consistency across village communications while remaining approachable and easy to implement. The identity balances tradition with clarity, incorporating meaningful local references into a refined design language that can scale across print, digital, and environmental applications. The result is a brand that feels authentic to Caledonia, supports everyday use by staff and partners, and provides a clear, recognizable foundation for the village’s continued growth.
Design elements rooted in place
Caledonia’s visual identity is built from elements that reflect the village’s character, history, and sense of community. Each component was intentionally designed to feel familiar yet refined, drawing from local references while remaining practical for long-term municipal use. Together, these elements create a cohesive system that supports clear communication, reinforces recognition, and allows the brand to show up consistently across the village’s many touchpoints.
Derived from the logo mark, the pattern extends its forms into a subtle vertical line motif. This detail adds rhythm and a quiet sense of heritage, reinforcing Caledonia’s established character while remaining refined and appropriate for municipal use.
The typography reflects Caledonia’s balance of tradition and everyday life. Structured yet approachable, the type system feels dependable and clear, supporting the village’s role as both a historic community and an active, growing place.
The color palette is inspired by Caledonia’s environment and tone. Grounded core colors convey stability and trust, while warmer supporting hues bring a sense of warmth and community, reflecting the village’s welcoming nature.
